ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

In 1951, in the midst of the Korean War, artist Lee Quede produced anatomical drawings to teach artistic anatomy to his student Lee Ju-yeong while interned in the Geoje prison camp. Comprising 2 books and spanning over 48 pages, 74 drawings were produced alongside explanations in a textbook format. The table of contents was ordered starting from body proportions, then the skeleton, the muscles, and the head. By part, there were 4 drawings of the trunk, 51 of the head, 7 of the arms, 9 of the legs, and 3 of the full body. Though the drawings of the head and face are both high in number and in detail, there were many errors in his depictions of the bones, and the boundaries between the structures of his muscle drawings were drawn so unclearly as to be indistinguishable. The essential forms, proportions and movement are included, but his disproportionate dedication to the head and the incoherent way that the book is arranged with no relevance to its table of contents leave something to be desired. It is regrettable that Lee Quede's return to North Korea meant that his drawings were not widely used, but despite this, I believe that these are invaluable documents in assessing the influence of Japanese artistic anatomy at the time, as well as the introductory circumstances of Korean artistic anatomy.

ABSTRACT

The Vitruvian Man is a study of human proportions made in the 1st Century BC. It was rediscovered in the Humanist period and spread by Leonardo da Vinci during the Renaissance. Also known as "The ideal man" or "Canon of proportions" , it is considered to be a sum of art and science and it is still being studied. The Vitruvian Man is, so far, the most famous representation of human morphology and measures.

ABSTRACT

What grips us so powerfully to a work of art is the artist's intention, if he succeeds to express it in his work and we are able to understand it. Michelangelo's Moses established the essential structures of an animate organism and the embodiment of consciousness in the world. Since the body is an expressive unit, it is possible to reconstruct a highly feasible sequence of movements that might have preceded the moment caught in the statue. It is an expression of the highest ideal of mental and spiritual achievement through the controlled tension between action and restraint. The phenomenon of embodiment and feeling the body as own is the basis of concrete human existence.

ABSTRACT

The Renaissance was a period of extensive scientific and cultural production, which occurred between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries. One of the exponents of this artistic period was the poet, architect, sculptor and painter Michelangelo Buonarroti, who was born and lived in Italy between 1475 and 1564. Among his best known artworks are the frescoes painted on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Currently, there is discussion if the paintings are only representations made from the sacred guidance of the church at the time, or if there are other meanings hidden in the images. From this context, we analyzed studies that associated the frescoes painted on the Sistine Chapel ceiling with anatomical structures hidden in the images, taking into account their significance, importance, and if these structures are not simply an imaginative interpretation of the researchers. This study was performed aiming to complement the work published by Ellwanger, Mohr and Campos (2012) in this journal.

ABSTRACT

The corresponding author of the study has been sketching comic strips to explain anatomy in a humorous manner. All the anatomy comic strips, including those in Korean (650 episodes) and English (451 episodes), can be viewed on the homepage (http://anatomy.co.kr). Such comic strips were created with the aim of assisting medical students. However, their impact was unknown, and therefore, we surveyed the students' responses. We noted that anatomy grades were better in the students who read the comic strips. The comics helped the trainees chat with individuals with and without a medical background. The authors also considered comments on the problems with the comic strips and attempted to find solutions. The episodes are being currently used and further produced for educational purposes. To support this effort, the readers' valuable opinions will be continuously collected and assessed.

ABSTRACT

Michelangelo Bounarroti born in Italy and lived between 1475 and 1564. He had a vast knowledge inanatomy and it is confirmed by the perfection in which human  is represented in his works. This fact drawsthe attention of scholars from a variety of areas concerning the study of human body to be interested in his artworks. We discuss the possible presence of the representation of anatomical structures included in the worksof Michelangelo presented by several authors.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we describe a study on visualization of SW atlases. Firstly, data structures in axial, coronal and sagittal directions are generated by SW atlases' raw data after pre-processing. Secondly, we produce 3D SW atlases through setting gray intensity and spaces between slices. Thirdly, we integrate the atlas into the neurosurgery navigation system and realize the visualization of SW atlases. Finally, we realize brain anatomy structures labeling and real-time display in neurosurgery navigation system.

ABSTRACT

The study aimed at identifying the effectiveness of counseling programme using educational and artistic activities for developing self concept and positive activities for developing self concept and positive behaviours for pre schoolblind child. The sample was [24] blind child from the ideal centre for blinds age [4:6]. The researcher prepared three tools to the study [self concept scale-an observation checklist for positive behaviours -a programme using educational /artistic activities]. The study used The experimental method [one group]. Results showed that-there are statistically significant differences between the mean scores at the self-concept scale and the observation checklist before and after using the study programme in favor of the post test, results show also that the programme is effective
